The summer before last we sold our travel trailer. We were disappointed with the floor plan, requiring a knock-down of the dinette to make up the queen size bed, or sleep in the tent-style flop out rear section. Neither worked well because it was difficult to get in and out of bed, having to crawl over one another if you were on the far side of the bed.
The entry into the trailer was tight, Susan sometimes banging her head on the end of the upper cabinet corner and Hank often hitting his shoulder on it. And the trailer had a single axle, causing some anxiety in the event of a tire blowout at traveling speed.
These are the kinds of drawbacks you don't really understand until you use the trailer for a while.
So this year, with some travel plans and extended stays at Braeburn Camp, and having an extra place to put up visitors to Yukon this summer, we decided to look for another trailer. One with a 'walk around' queen bed. We searched the internet for a good deal on a used trailer with the ideal floor plan. And we found one. However, it meant having to drive to Peace River, Alberta to get it - a trip of two and a half days, each way.
So the trailer we bought is a Skyline Nomad 'Joey' (as in the kangaroo) Select 260. Here's the floor plan:
So, you can see the permanent queen bed at the front of the trailer. It has a new, upgraded, mattress that is super comfortable. The entry door toward the rear of the trailer leads into a kitchen and seating area with a dinette and a sofa that slides out to provide more room. The bathroom door opens up and clicks into the entry way, creating a full bathroom and dressing area - like an ensuite to the bedroom. Perfect!!
Here is a photo when we had the trailer hooked up and on the road in the early morning ready to leave Peace River for home.
On the way home, along the Alaska Highway we stopped to take this photo of the truck and trailer with a herd of bison.
The trailer towed beautifully! Since it was still winterized, we didn't stay in it overnight enroute.
Looking forward to camping this summer, and a trip to Alaska. First time will be Hank's stay at Braeburn Camp during a construction project to replace staff cabins during the first two weeks of May.
Since we don't have room in the driveway at home, we have arrangements with the great folks at Fireweed RV Centre to store and service the trailer. They have prepared it for summer, and added a couple of upgrades - a front power jack (replacing the hand crank), and a large hand rail/grip at the trailer door.
